A nice intuitive time saver that I use everyday. Has everything i need and more. I would request a preference for relaxed mode so I didnt have to quote my keys.

This app seems very buggy - I opened the app, added an object, deleted it and the app crashed. After it reopened, I tried to create a simple JSON { "title" : "this is my title" } When I opened the file it showed { "NewKey" : "this is my title" } I went back and found that often when I entered a name for a key, it didnt take. Otherwise I like the layout of the app, if the bugs get fixed, it will be a great little app. Update: Does nothing but crash. Text view does not keep in sync with tree view. Awful program in its current form.
I love this app, its by far my "go-to" app for viewing/browsing JSON files and JSON web results. I recommend it all the time to my dev friends and people I train to be able to build apps quicker. -- @scalabl3
Some non-standard behaviors frustrate me. Tabbing out of a node wont save the nodes new value; you have to press enter. This takes some getting used to, and is non-standard.
Very nice tool - it just works. Worth every penny.
I bought this simply because I cant find a way to edit on the text directly in Cocoa Json Editor. Also Im frustrated by Jason 0.6 because it kept opening an extremely large historical file, making the app cant even launch. Power JSON editor just do the work really well. You can edit the text directly. You can get both compact and beautified format. You can edit in a tree format. If you are thinking about getting Power JSON or Cocoa JSON, pick Power JSON.
All I was looking for was a way to format JSON text so I could debug an app more easily, and this app does that neatly. I just paste my compacted JSON into the text pane, then I can browse the structure on the right and see the JSON for any node I want to. Very nice. Eventually I will look into the advanced features - as it is it is worth the purchase price.
This app should be featured on One Thing Well. I needed some help making sense of the JSON results I was getting out of the Digital Public Library of America (go get an API Key!) and didnt have time to mess about with Sublime Text trying to do what I needed to do. I had EXACTLY ONE PROBLEM - the depth of the "Import from Web" menu item. This goes in the right direction, putting it as the only option in the Plug-Ins menu. I cant give it any more stars, but PLEASE put it on the toolbar (or allow users to customize and add Plug-ins) and it will be perfect for my application anyway. Testing queries over and over and over… you get the idea. Im not creating JSON here (or converting it to PLIST, but if you need that it does it very well), just needed a way to give an API a workout and easily examine the results of each query. Thanks again.
This is a good json editor. I would like to see few of enhancements. 1. append the json to the URL when inporting from web. 2. Allow custom extensions - We have several JSON property files that have custom extensions. 3. Save URL by name to retrieve later. Thanks for a useful editor.
I have used this (or tried to) for a few days now. It keeps freezing up after I edit something. The Quit menu item is greyed out so I must force quit. I am on 10.8.5. This happens consistently.
Would be nice to click on an object and paste in plain text object.
I am really liking 90% of this application, then I tried deleting nodes, and the application simply stops responding. Its fairly intermittent, but extremely frustrating. Ive rebooted, quit, forced quit, etc - it just hangs when trying to delete a node. Then it will work for a few minutes, then right back to not working again. Its not a terribly large file - the file overall is, but honestly that shouldnt matter much to something with the name "power" in it. Hope this gets fixed, or I will have to locate another editor.
I use JSON config files for various purposes, and need to be able to edit quickly in the raw format. Its extremely helpful to have two editor features that this editor lacks. One is syntax highlighting, making keys and values different colors and making text a different color from punctuation makes the JSON structure much easier to see. The other highly useful feature is error highlighting and positioning. Its great that this editor detects errors and tells you what they are. It would be much, much better to highlight that error in the raw text and scroll the window to it. Bonus points for making the highlight pluse three times. :)
Very responsive to suggestions too. I recomended the compaction feature in this suggestion box when I said previously "Another feature I think would be cool would be to un-beautify json. That is collapse the whitespace." Not sure if that was the reason why it was added but Im glad its there now! Id say they should charge for this, but developers dont like to pay for software. (I would). You know what this needs though is command line support. Imagine beinga ble to !pjson %:p a file from vim. I realize that its sandboxed, but maybe something can be done to send json directly to this awesome tool. I’ve been using this plugin for years and the dev keeps updating it. That’s so awesome! Thank you. It’s always getting better. :)
Would be really nice if it let me open any filetype I want, instead I’m forced to rename the file in order to open it….
Overall, I think this app is pretty good. It does everything I need. It has a small footprint and has been reliable. My only gripe is when you exiting the app without saving, the close dialogs are non-standard. The dialogs also kept my Mac from performing a scheduled reboot. Other than that, I found it was well worth the cost.
Was looking for something to easly create and modify archetype JSON texts. This appication works perfect for this case. Easily move, copy, and delete JSON nodes. Easily change node types from arrays to objects. Easily modify values, add key/values, and add nodes. Only small quick, is adding a node to the very end of a top level array is a little wierd. By default when copying a new node into an array it adds it to the top. Adding to the bottom requires that the last node be fully expanded, then to move the node leftward until it is at the right level. Another workaround is to add the node as the second to last in the array then move the last one up. Easily overcome and worked around, but still annoying nonetheless. For this small annoyance, I gotta pull off one star, but otherwise is a HUGE timesaver.
Love the app. It’s very helpful when designing new JSON docs (or finding bugs in the format of existing ones). One minor suggestion: Allow me to choose whether the open file dialog pops up or a new document is created on program start up. Similarly, allow me to decide if I want you to ask me to save the file on program shut down. More often than not, I am using the program to beautify / debug a chunk of JSON I’ve got in my clipboard.
I use this app for game development when I’m modeling game data (in the JSON format). It’s super simple, and it works great. I hope the developer stays active on this app!
Awesome little app. All the parts do what you’d expect, in the way you’d expect. Follows the “Law of least astonishment” to a tee. I use the “New from template” to save time on Node.js and Meteor projects and packages. Does one very helpful thing well. Reminds me of my old buddy CSSEdit (RIP, but still runs!).
