Power JSON Editor App Reviews

Solid reliable performant tool for visualising JSON data

I’ve been using this tool for more than a few years. It’s always been reliable and performant and simply gets better with each update. Autosaving to iCloud is great!

Great product

Very very usefull, nice and fast tool for json, perfect for debugging big string

Good but need some ameliorations

It’s fast, reliable, I use it almost everyday and I’m happy with it (especially the wuick look in the finder which is really helpful). But it would need some improvements : * Having tabs would be fantastic * When there is an error in the JSON, display in the text editor exactly where it is instead of just showing the parse error message * Improve searching in the node view : display a real tool box for next and previous occurence of a search, and also a visual information of where are the occurences (like in chrome)

First impressions are hard to make up for

First impression: started the app to OPEN an existing json: the open button doesn’t work and CMD+O doesn’t work either. tried it again and a 3rd time — doesn’t work .. I feel stupid.. either I dont get the UX or there’s a bug … I didn’t get the UX! so now I do have the file open but now I am faced with more buttons that don’t do anything.. they are clickable and nothing happens .. no errors, no success, nothing (I guess the lesson for me is: json is easy enough to write that I don’t need POWER :/)

Good value and well done!

Been using this editor frequently over the last few months. Seems stable and works without any crashes I can recall. Fine for our application that needs hand editing of a json file. A VERY nice enhancement would be to support some meaningful "diff" capability. I have recommended this app to others on our team.

Great App!

It does what promise. Everything works great and it is easy to understand and use. JSON files can be overwhelming and this guy helps a lot to read and maintain your files.

Awesome

My personal favorite JSON editor.

Pretty good

It seems to be pretty good. I have had some problems with it crashing, and occasionally will not let me copy & paste in new json. If I restart it works fine again. I would give it 5 stars without these two problems.

Solid JSON editor app

I like this app. After having tried several other JSON editors, this is the one I am keeping. Nice combination of tree vs. raw view, always kept in sync. Love the quick beautify function too. The app behaves well. Hasnt crashed on me yet, and is always very responsive. A couple of suggestions that I think would enhance the app even more: - After adding a node in the tree view, autoselect the node name so I am not forced to click on it every time to edit the default "NewKey". - Add syntax coloring to the raw JSON view. Good work!

So far so good but...

A nice visual JSON editor that allows for quick brainstroming of JSON structures. I do have a few suggestions * Syntax highlighting in the Raw JSON window * It would also be nice to be able to change the bracing style. Its understandable that most Javascript bracing styles are K&R due to the lovely behavior of Javascripts return keyword but in some coding standards, bracing style is required to be left justified. * Change the behavior of the Key field so you dont have to press enter in order for the changes to stick. I personally do a lot of tabbing between fields and this burns me from time to time. * Drag and drop reordering of the fields.

Does what it says on the tin

Well thought-out, works quite well. My only complaint is trivial, but I think the toolbar icons are rather ugly & distracting.

Excellent App

This app works great, the only thing Id like to see is the ability to search for and delete objects or strings. You can search and replace, but you cannot replace and delete. Otherwise, this is a solid app, money well spent.

Does exactly what it says

This is a great tool! It does exactly what it says. This has simplified my JSON editing workflow considerably.

Great application. Still a few minor bugs but use it every day.

Being a web developer build REST based applications I often need to construct complex payloads with a lot of nesting. Power Json Editor helps me do that without guesswork. My fellow developers thought it was funny that I was using a special application to edit JSON and then suddenly I noticed that they had all installed it as well.

A great tool

It does what it says it does. It makes editing Json easy, and one can see (and cut and paste) the Json below each level. A stand-out feature is that you get a full text box for strings, and you edit the string un-escaped (with newlines, etc) and its stored fully escaped. Ive rarely seen this in XML editors. It lets you move nodes around (even key/value pairs, even though this doesnt really make a difference, but makes the Json more readable) and make a nodes into an object or an array. One can even edit true/false values from the view screen. My only issues (and they are minor) is that it lets you add keys which already exist in the object, and when you create a string node, it starts out with "string" as the text (I would have preferred blank).

Well worth the money

Does exactly what it is supposed to. In the first ten minutes of using it, it paid for itself. Finding errors in JSON is really easy. Nice editor.

Not a terrible JSON editor :)

Most of the JSON editors out there are pretty terrible, but this one is decent and is currently the only one I use. All of the commonly used commands (create node, etc) use option+command keystrokes which are generally hard on the hands and difficult to remember. The saving feature of this editor is its split-pane plain-text editor, which allows you to write JSON directly, then just click "Beautify" and it formats it all. Additionally, the Beautify does not reorder your nodes (which some other JSON editors do)—big plus! Also, the node viewer is great for those string nodes that have a lot of text in them. To be the perfect editor, I recommend these changes: - the plain-text editor should have syntax highlighting and auto-indentation - remap the keystrokes, or allow the user to remap them to make writing JSON documents less contortionistic.

Gets the job done

This isnt a perfect JSON editor, but it gets the job done. It is better than the other two editors I tried. It handles large documents well and lets you edit the JSON one object at a time. Support for duplication and cut and paste at the object level is also nice - no lining up brackets! If you find yourself in an unfortunate situation where you need to edit JSON by hand, this is the best alternative Ive found.

Extremely Handy

I deal with JSON structures Im not familiar with and this app makes it very easy to work with JSON, I would say the huge icons in the Menu list under Node Menubar Item is wayy too large, but apart from that the actual application is solid.

Functionality but clunky

Im using JSON editor to enter in a lot of data. It certainly works but bugs and UI flow problems keep this from being ideal 1) Crashes upon undo operations (after you add a new object/array) 2) Tabbing erases your entry rather than entering it 3) You can tab to a new line, but cant shift-Tab to the previous 4) You cant convert a null entry to Array or Object.
